HARRISON, N.J. (September 15, 2025) – New York Red Bulls II Midfielder Dennis Nelich named MLS NEXT Pro Rising Star of Matchweek 27, the league announced today.
The 17-year-old was a big factor in New York’s 3-2 road victory over Huntsville City FC on Saturday night. The midfielder subbed into the match in the 68th minute and made an instant impact. Seven minutes after subbing on, Nelich received a pass from midfielder Nehuen Benedetti toward the top of the box and struck a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner to give Red Bulls II a 2-1 lead.
This was Nelich’s second goal of the season. He leads all academy agreement players on New York’s roster in goals.
The midfielder is also the first Red Bulls II player to be named MLS NEXT Pro Rising Star of the Matchweek this season.
Nelich and company will be back in action on September 21 as they return home to MSU Soccer Park to face Inter Miami CF II. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. ET with coverage available on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
