HARRISON, N.J. (September 2, 2025) – New York Red Bulls II midfielder Rafael Mosquera named MLS NEXT Pro Player of Matchweek 25, the league announced.
Odds are that if you saw a Red Bulls II goal in their 7-4 win over Columbus Crew 2, Mosquera was involved in it.
The midfielder dished out two assists to midfielder Nehuen Benedetti in the first 17 minutes of the match.
The Panama international found the back of the net in the 42nd minute after curling an attempt into the bottom left corner off a through ball from midfielder Nate Worth.
Mosquera added a third assist in the 90th minute thanks to a curled through ball to forward Mijahir Jimenez who tucked a shot near post.
The midfielder is the second player in club history to record three assists in a single match joining teammate Ronald Donkor. Mosquera is also the youngest player to record three assists in a match in franchise history at 20 years and 99 days old.
Mosquera has had quite the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro campaign. He has scored seven goals scored which is tied for second most on Red Bulls II this season. The Panamanian also has 10 assists which is a team high and ties Chicago Fire FC II midfielder Claudio Cassano for most assists in MLS NEXT Pro this season.
The midfielder is the fourth Red Bulls II player to earn MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Matchweek this season. He joins Julian Hall (Matchweek 3), Ibrahim Kasule (Matchweek 13) and Mijahir Jimenez (Matchweek 22).
Mosquera and company will return to action on September 13, as the squad travels to Wicks Family Field to face Huntsville City FC. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET with coverage available on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
