HARRISON, N.J. (February 8, 2023) – New York Red Bulls II have signed defender O’Vonte Mullings to an MLS NEXT Pro contract pending league and federation approval, the club announced today.
Mullings, 22, will enter his second season with the club after making his professional debut during the 2022 USL Championship season. He started all 31 matches that he appeared in and logged a team-leading 2,668 minutes, which ranks third in club history for a player in a single season.
“O’Vonte [Mullings] had a strong first season with us,” Sporting Director Denis Hamlett said. “We are excited to see what he will bring to the group in his second year as he continues to grow as a professional.”
The defender also led the team in assists with five and scored his first professional goal on August 9 against Atlanta United 2, a goal that proved to be the fifth-latest match-winning goal in club history.
“We are very happy to have O’Vonte [Mullings] with our group for the 2023 season,” Head Coach Ibrahim Sekagya said. “He had impressive growth throughout the season as a defender and we are eager to see the development he will have in his second year.”
Mullings joined Red Bulls II after four seasons at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he logged 4,697 minutes, 28 goals, and seven assists over 57 matches. He was the 20th overall selection in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft by the New York Red Bulls.
