MONTCLAIR, N.J. (April 29, 2024) - New York Red Bulls II (3-1-3 14 pts.) had their six-match unbeaten run to start the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season snapped by Columbus Crew 2 (3-2-1 10 pts.) in a 2-0 loss at MSU Soccer Park.

Red Bulls II came into yesterday’s match having held Philadelphia Union 2 to a 1-1 draw at Subaru Park to set the club record for most matches unbeaten to start a season. They were set to host a Columbus side that were yet to defeat them in MLS NEXT Pro play over the past two seasons.

New York came out on top in the first matchup between these two this season, winning by a score of 2-0 at Lower.com field. Columbus looked to flip the script in their second match against Red Bulls II in 2024.

The visitors opened the match’s scoring in the sixth minute when Chase Adams curled one into the back of the net.

New York created chances in the final third throughout the first half but were unable to capitalize before seeing Columbus double their lead.

In the 40th minute, a cross sent in by Crew 2 found the head of Brent Adu-Gyamfi for their second goal of the match.

Columbus would focus on their defensive play for the rest of the second half by stopping just about any attack that New York posed. The match would end 2-0, with Columbus taking all three points on the road and handing New York their first loss of the season.

New York Red Bulls II hits the road for a match against Inter Miami CF II on Friday, May 3. Kickoff at Chase Stadium is set for 6 p.m. ET with coverage on MLSNEXTPro.com, NewYorkRedBulls.com, and the New York Red Bulls app.
