Red Bull New York II Acquire Panamanian Defender Aimar Sánchez on Loan from CD Plaza Amador

HARRISON, N.J. (February 22, 2026) – Red Bull New York II acquire Panamanian defender Aimar Sánchez on a one-year loan from C.D. Plaza Amador through the 2026 season with a option to extend, pending visa and registration approval, the club announced today.

“Aimar is a strong young center back who has significant senior team professional experience.” Head Coach Dominik Wohlert said, “he will bring toughness and experience to our back line, and we are looking forward to working with him.”

The 20-year-old center back has made 34 appearances for CD Plaza Amador in the Liga Panameña scoring two goals and tallying one assist. The defender made his debut subbing on in the 77th minute of a 1-0 win over Tauro FC on August 4, 2024. His first career Liga Panameña goal was a 76th minute match winning header in a 2-1 win over Alianza FC Panama on October 20, 2024. Sánchez earned his first career Liga Panameña assist against Potros del Este on October 14, 2024. 

The Panama City, Panama native has nine appearances in the Liga Panameña Playoff making his debut in a 2-1 semifinal 1st leg victory over Arabe Unido on November 17, 2024. He started and played a full 90 minutes in the side’s 2024 Liga Panameña Clausura Playoff Final match against CA Independiente on December 1, 2024. Sánchez also started all three matches of the 2025 Liga Panameña Apertura Playoffs and started in 6-0 2025 Liga Panameña Apertura Playoff title win over San Francisco on June 1, 2025.

He also played a key role in the 2025 Liga Panameña Clausura Playoffs helping earn a clean sheet in the sides 2-0 win over Alianza FC to clinch the 2025 Liga Panameña Clausura Playoff title.

The defender made eight starts in the 2025 CONCACAF Central American Cup. 

On the international stage, Sánchez made his senior Panama National Team debut and first career start in a 1-1 draw against Bolivia on January 18. The center back also has two appearances for U-20 Panama National Team. He made his debut in an international friendly match against Saudi Arabia on June 6, 2025. The defender made his first career start with U-20 Panama in an international friendly match against the Republic of Congo on June 13, 2025. 

The defender is the fifth player to be signed by Red Bull New York II from C.D. Plaza Amador, joining defenders Omar Valencia and Alexander Julio, midfielder Rafael Mosquera and forward Mijahir Jimenez.
