HARRISON, N.J. (September 22, 2026) – Red Bull New York II have signed Red Bulls Academy defender Joshua Munson to a two-and-a-half-year MLS NEXT Pro contract through the 2028-29 season, which goes into effect on January 1, 2027, the club announced today. Munson will join the first team as a Homegrown Player for the 2029-30 MLS season with options for the 2030-31 and 2031-32 seasons.
“We have been very happy with Josh’s development since he initially joined the club as a player in our Academy system,” said Technical Director Tiger Fitzpatrick. “His desire and commitment to achieve the dream of a professional playing career is being rewarded with this next step and we are excited to continue working with him to the end.”
The 17-year-old made his MLS NEXT Pro debut on May 30, starting against Carolina Core FC at Truist Point Stadium. Munson scored his first career MLS NEXT Pro goal in a 5-0 victory against Toronto FC II on June 21 at MSU Soccer Park.
Overall, Munson has appeared in 14 matches this season, logging 826 minutes.
Recently, the defender was called into the U-17 USYNT training camp during the September/October window, marking his first international call-up at any level.
Munson joined the Red Bulls Academy in 2024. Prior to joining the club, the 17-year-old was a part of the Michigan Jaguars.
“Josh is a young centerback who has made tremendous strides in recent months, both on and off the field,” said Head Coach Dominik Wohlert. “We are incredibly excited to have him with us for the next few years and will continue to push and support his development.”
