(January 5, 2014) – Three members of the New York Red Bulls academy took part in U.S. Soccer Youth National team camps in December, and three more earned a call to the first U.S. U-14 camp of 2015 as well. Under-18 defender Kyle Duncan represented the U.S. in two games against the German U-18 National team in Marbella, Spain, while Christopher Gloster and Jack Valderrabano joined the U.S. U-15 Boy’s National Team for a camp in Bradenton, Florida, before the holidays. Three members of the Red Bulls U-13s, Danny Jara, Kejiel Watt and Alex Rando, are currently training with the U.S. U-14 Boy’s National Team, also in Bradenton.
Duncan, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., was one of 20 players invited in the nine-day camp, which began on December 11. The defender started both of the U-18s’ games against Germany, going 78 minutes in the 2-1 win on December 17, and a full 90 in the 3-2 defeat two days later.
Duncan was the only player to start all 13 games in the Red Bulls U-18s’ Fall season. He contributed two goals and was part of a staunch defense as the team went 9-1-3 and topped the USDA Atlantic Division.
He is also one of 13 players on the Marbella camp roster that were part of the U-18 team that captured the championship at the Vaclav Jezek Invitational Tournament in the Czech Republic back in August.
Gloster, from Montclair, N.J., and Valderrabano, from New York City, were called in to the 36-player camp by U-15 National Team coach John Hackworth. The players met in Bradenton on December 13th and trained through the 20th. The week of training focused on intrasquad competition, and included a full practice with the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team. The current U-15s are candidates for the next class of the U.S. U-17 residency program, which is hosted at the facilities in Bradenton.
Gloster started all 12 of the U-14s’ Fall contests and contributed one goal. Valderrabano started 11 games for the Red Bulls and scored a team-leading 11 goals.
Jara, Watt and Rando reported to Bradenton on January 3rd as part of a 36-man roster, and will train through the 10th with the U.S. U-14 squad. The roster will be split for two games on January 7th, with matches against French club FC Metz, and US Development Academy side Weston FC U-14s. The camp will also include an intrasquad scrimmage on January 9th.
The Red Bulls U-13s won all eight outings during their Autumn campaign in the Northeast Pre-Academy League, outscoring opponents 46-2 and recording six shutouts.
The New York Red Bulls maintain one of the premier youth soccer development programs in the United States, committed to identifying and developing talent in the tri-state area. All five age groups, U-12s, 13s, 14s, 16s and 18s, are consistently ranked among the top programs in the nation, and Red Bulls players make regular appearances in U.S. Soccer Youth National Teams and NCAA Division I programs.
