PRESEASON LIVE: New York Red Bulls vs. Fort Lauderdale Strikers

The Red  Bulls defeated Fort Lauderdale, 2-0, behind goals from Thierry Henry and Mehdi Ballouchy.  Check back later for match recap and more.


The New York Red Bulls take on NASL side, Fort Lauderdale Strikers, at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  The match will begin at approximately 2:30 PM and will conclude the Florida portion of the Red Bulls 2011 preseason. The match is open to the public and is free of charge.


MSG veteran play-by-play announcer Steve Cangialosi and former New York defender Mike Petke will call the match.


New York, the 2010 Eastern Conference regular season champion, left for Florida on Monday and enters its second preseason trip holding a 2-2-1 in 2011. The Red Bulls were in Mexico from Feb. 4-16 and defeated the Atlante First Team and Reserve Team, while falling to Chivas de Guadalajara.  On Wednesday, the Red Bulls Reserves dropped a 4-2 decision to Chicago Fire Reserves prior to the respective First Teams playing to a 1-1 draw.


The match is the first of the 2011 preseason for Fort Lauderdale. "Even though we are only 5 days into preseason, it’s a great opportunity for our fans to see our team compete against one of the top teams in Major League Soccer. We hope all of our fans take advantage of this free exhibition match,” said Head Coach Daryl Shore.  Last preseason New York defeated the Strikers (then known as Miami FC), 3-1.
