HARRISON, N.J. (July 14, 2014) – New York Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry was named MLS Player of the Week for Week 18.

With today marking his four-year anniversary since signing with the Red Bulls, the World Cup, European Championship and UEFA Champions League winner led New York to a 4-1 win over the Columbus Crew last Saturday at Red Bull Arena following a one-goal, three-assist performance. That evening, Henry also set the club’s record in assists in regular season play with 37, surpassing Amado Guevara and Tab Ramos.

The New York captain set up Bradley Wright-Phillips’ league-leading 15th goal of the season early in the first half. After running onto a well-weighted through ball from Eric Alexander, Henry whipped a left footed cross into the box to Wright-Phillips, who finished it with his right foot.

Henry then found a goal of his own just before halftime to give his team a 2-1 lead at the break. After Wright-Phillips was denied twice inside the six-yard-box, the rebound fell to Henry, who calmly finished the loose ball into the side netting. The Red Bulls are unbeaten in their last 23 that games that Henry has scored in (18-0-5).

Henry wasn’t done there, as he went on to set up two more goals. Lloyd Sam took a Henry pass inside the 18-yard-box and beat Crew goalkeeper Steve Clark and put the Red Bulls up 3-1. Henry would then spring Eric Alexander in on a breakaway in the dying minutes to ensure the three points at home.

The Frenchman leads MLS in assists with nine and has recorded four goals. Since joining MLS, the three-time MLS All-Star has recorded 45 goals and 37 assists in 107 regular season appearances. Henry last won the MLS Player of the Week on Week 30 of the 2012 season (Oct. 1, 2012).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR).
