Calf Injury Puts Henry's Status In Question, Lindpere Trains

UPPER MONTCLAIR, N.J. — For the second straight day, the New York Red Bulls trained in the rain. And for the second straight day they did so without Thierry Henry.

The Red Bulls captain was absent from practice on Wednesday morning due to a calf injury he sustained while training on his own during the two-week break. And the knock has put Henry’s availability for Sunday’s clash against the Chicago Fire in jeopardy.

“I don’t expect him to train tomorrow,” Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe told MLSsoccer.com following Wednesday’s training. “Probably, Friday or Saturday and then we’ll have to see from there.”

Henry recently recovered from a hamstring problem that kept him out of action for nearly a month, and he also missed out on the US Open Cup matches during the past two weeks to recover from that injury.

Lindpere trains

Like Henry, Joel Lindpere did not participate in the Red Bulls’ training session on Wednesday as he is suffering from a back problem picked up while on international duty with Estonia. But he did do individual workouts, and he is expected to join the rest of the team on Thursday.

“He will be ready for [full] training tomorrow,” Backe said.

No update on Márquez's knock

There was no update after practice on Wednesday on midfielder Rafa Márquez’s injured thigh, as he had yet to arrive back from international duty. Márquez is expected to be in Red Bulls’ camp late on Wednesday, but his status for Sunday’s match vs. Chicago is still unknown.

“Probably, he still has a problem with his thigh,” said Backe. “But we have to wait and take it day by day.”
