The Red Bulls Reserve squad fell to D.C. United's Reserves, 3-1, on Monday afternoon at D.C. United's training facility. Jhonny Arteaga notched the only goal for New York, who fell to 1-4-2 in the 2012 Reserve League.

United needed just six minutes to open the scoring, with Suliman Dainkeh finding the back of the net. New York's defense struggled clearing a D.C. corner kick, and the United academy standout fired home the loose ball. Just five minutes later, the hosts doubled their lead when Josh Wolff connected on a volley from the edge of the penalty area.

The Red Bulls got back into the game momentarily as Arteaga pulled the Red Bulls closer to level terms in the 32nd minute, redirecting the ball off a corner kick. It was Arteaga's second goal this season for New York's Reserves.

But right out of the gate for the second half, United regained a two-goal advantage. In the 50th minute, Danny Cruz received a pass from Ian Harkes and beat goalkeeper Jeremy Vuolo with a well-struck shot from outside the box, rounding out the scoring for the match as D.C.'s defense held firm the rest of the way.

Trialists Lloyd Sam and Johann Smith both started the match for the Red Bulls and played the full 90 minutes.
