HARRISON, NJ (August 28, 2012) – The New York Red Bulls announced today that midfielder Victor Palsson has been loaned to Dutch Eredivisie side N.E.C. Nijmegen for the entire 2012-13 Eredivisie season, which ends in May 2013.

“We believe that this is an excellent opportunity for Victor to earn playing time in a good league,” said Red Bulls General Manager and Sporting Director Erik Soler. “Victor is still a very young player with a lot of potential and we look forward to tracking his progress in the Netherlands, with the option of bringing him back to New York next year.”

Palsson was in his first season with the Red Bulls. The 21-year-old Reykjavik, Iceland native has appeared in 16 games in 2012, earning four starts and logging 463 minutes. The midfielder joined the Red Bulls after spending the 2011 season with Scottish Premier League side Hibernian, appearing in 31 matches.  In 2010, Palsson signed with English Premier League side Liverpool, but did not appear for the first team. During the 2010-11 season, he was loaned to then-English League One club Dagenham and Redbridge.

On the international stage, Palsson has appeared for Iceland’s Under-19 and Under-21 sides. N.E.C. Nijmegen currently sits in 10th place in the 18-team Eredivisie with a 1-2-0 record through three matches.
