HARRISON, NJ (Nov. 26, 2012) – The New York Red Bulls announced today that they have signed midfielder/defenders Brandon Barklage and Connor Lade to new contracts. Per MLS and club regulations, specific terms were not disclosed.
“Both of these players had very strong seasons for us and have bright futures ahead,” said Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh. “We are very pleased to recognize their play by agreeing to new contracts with each of them and we look forward to their contributions in the coming years.”
In addition, Lade will train with Spanish La Liga club, Sevilla FC, from Dec. 13-23.
“This is an excellent opportunity for a young player to train with an established European club like Sevilla,” Roxburgh said. “We hope that Connor benefits from this stint and are looking forward to have him back in preseason camp when it starts in January.”
Barklage earned a spot on the Red Bulls’ roster in the 2012 preseason and was signed on March 5. Playing primarily as a right back, Barklage enjoyed a breakout season for New York, featuring in 19 games, while making 16 starts and scoring two goals and five assists - a mark that tied for third on the team. Prior to joining the Red Bulls, Barklage was a member of D.C. United from 2009-2011 after being drafted out of Saint Louis University.
Signing as the team’s fifth Home Grown Player on Dec. 5, 2011, Lade enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign. The former St. John’s University product amassed 26 appearances (22 of which were starts) and notched three assists, playing in the midfield and defense throughout the season. The Morristown, NJ native also started the team’s two playoff games this year.
