ABOUT THE MATCH

The Red Bulls return home to face a Union side that is led by team manager John Hackworth and strike duo Sebastien Le Toux and Jack McInerney. Philadelphia boasts a 2-1-0 record and six points following its most recent 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution March 16 behind McInerney’s team-leading second goal of the season. Philadelphia is hoping the strong start maintains throughout the season, as they are looking to earn a spot in the MLS Playoffs in 2013 after failing to qualify last year.

Philadelphia did not compete in MLS action last weekend, but did defeat Mexican side, UNAM Pumas, 1-0, at PPL Park last Saturday, with Michael Farfan recording the game’s only goal. Le Toux spent the second half of the 2012 season with New York before being dealt to Philadelphia for his second stint with the Union on Dec. 6 in exchange for forward Josue Martinez and allocation money.

New York has had their rival’s number in recent times. In 2012, the Red Bulls went a perfect 3-0 against the Union, winning twice at PPL Park and once at Red Bull Arena. In the teams’ last match, New York shutout Philadelphia, 3-0, on Oct. 27 on the road. The Red Bulls are 5-2-0 all-time against the Union and have won four-straight matches against their Eastern Conference foe.
