ABOUT THE MATCH

The Red Bulls played their third match in eight days last Saturday, tying the New England Revolution, 1-1, at Gillette Stadium. New York went behind after a Diego Fagundez second half tally, but Red Bull midfielder Lloyd Sam scored his first MLS goal one minute later to help the visitors run their unbeaten streak to five (4-0-1). The Red Bulls moved to 21 points off a 6-4-3 record and are currently in sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference with a one point lead over the Houston Dynamo, Sporting Kansas City and the Montreal Impact.

New York hosts the Galaxy, which comes into this week with 17 points and a 5-3-2 record – good for a third place tie in the Western Conference. The Galaxy recorded its third loss of the year, falling to the Vancouver Whitecaps on the road, 3-1, last Saturday. That match kicked off a three-game road trip that concludes Sunday in New York. The Galaxy did come back to beat the Philadelphia Union, 4-1, at PPL Park Wednesday evening before coming to the Big Apple. LA boasts a number of high profile players including U.S. standout Landon Donovan, Irish forward Robbie Keane and 2011 MLS Defender of the Year Omar Gonzalez. In addition, former Red Bull Mike Magee has tallied a team-high six goals, which is second in MLS. Donovan tallied a goal and two assists in the win over the Union.

New York is 17-15-6 all-time against LA and is 11-7-2 at home. The Red Bulls are unbeaten in their last four regular season matches versus the Galaxy (3-0-1) and defeated LA, 1-0, on May 5, 2012 in the only meeting between the two teams last year.
