The Red Bulls dominated possession in the opening half and tested Vancouver’s defense early, with Fabian Espindola forcing goalkeeper Brad Knighton to stop his left-footed attempt in the 14th minute. Soon after, Jonny Steele’s on target blast was caught by Knighton. In the 21st minute, Juninho created space for himself and hit a dipping shot that zipped just over the crossbar.

New York took the lead in the 51st minute via good attacking play in Vancouver’s defensive third. Thierry Henry slid the ball through to an on-rushing Steele, whose low cross was re-directed into his own net by Greg Klazura.

However, the visitors equalized seven minutes later. After New York cleared a corner kick, Whitecaps FC defender Lee Young-Pyo swung a ball towards the back post that was headed back towards the penalty spot. Jordan Harvey was there to volley it into the net.

The Red Bulls were reduced to 10 men when Jamison Olave earned his second yellow card and a subsequent red card for a foul on Kenny Miller in the 75th minute.

Vancouver took home the three points seven minutes from full time as Miller headed home a Russell Teibert cross from inside the box.
