COMMERCE CITY, CO (July 4, 2013) – The New York Red Bulls dropped a 2-0 decision to the Colorado Rapids Thursday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. New York stayed at 28 points with an 8-7-4 record and are still in sole possession of second place in the Eastern Conference, trailing leader the Montreal Impact by two points.

New York’s next match is on July 13 against the Montreal Impact at Red Bull Arena at 7:00 PM. Three days later, the Red Bulls host Olympique Lyonnais on July 16 at 8:00 PM in an international friendly. Tickets for both matches are available by calling 1.877.RBSOCCER or logging onto www.newyorkredbulls.com.

Fielding an unchanged lineup from the team’s 2-0 win over Houston last Sunday, the Red Bulls had the game’s best chance of the opening half in the 23rd minute, as Eric Alexander slid it through to Thierry Henry, who took a touch and pushed his attempt wide right. On the other end 14 minutes later, Rapids midfielder Nathan Sturgis latched onto a short Red Bulls clearance and shot it right at goalkeeper Luis Robles.

Colorado took the lead in the 47th minute. Following a corner kick, Edson Buddle’s 12-yard blast was deflected to Drew Moor, whose on-target volley was blocked off the line by New York defender Markus Holgersson. However, Sturgis was first to the rebound and there to smash it into the ceiling of the net.

The hosts doubled their advantage in the 68th minute. New York was dispossessed in its own 18-yard box and Christopher Klute hit a low cross into the six yard box that Deshorn Brown redirected in from close range.

Down a pair of goals, the Red Bulls pressed to find the back of the net, as Fabian Espindola went high with a shot from 23 yards out before Henry’s chip was nearly put in by substitute Lloyd Sam at the back post.
