ABOUT THE MATCH

The New York Red Bulls can move into first place in the Eastern Conference with a win in their next MLS match this Saturday against Toronto FC at BMO Field at 4:00 PM ET (TV: MSG – Pre-Game Show starts at 3:30 PM; Radio: ESPN Deportes Radio Nueva York 1050 AM).

New York was able to earn three points in a 4-0 win over the then-first place Montreal Impact last Saturday at Red Bull Arena behind goals from four different scorers. Red Bulls midfielder Eric Alexander recorded his second goal of the season in the 10th minute while team leading scorer and MLS All Star Thierry Henry had a goal and two assists in the victory. The Red Bulls (9-7-4) are in a second place tie with the Impact (9-5-4) on 31 points, trailing Eastern Conference leader Sporting Kansas City (9-5-6) by two points.

On Tuesday, New York drew French Ligue 1 side, Olympique Lyonnais, 2-2, in an international friendly at Red Bull Arena.

The Red Bulls will face a Toronto FC side that is in ninth in the Eastern Conference with 13 points off a 2-10-7 record this season. The Reds lost Wednesday night, 1-0, against Chivas USA at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA despite playing for most of the match a man up following an Eric Avila red card.

The Red Bulls are 9-4-3 all-time against Toronto FC and 3-3-3 all-time at BMO Field. On April 27, the Red Bulls beat Toronto FC, 2-1, at BMO Field. Tim Cahill’s two-goal performance, including the match-winner in the 89th minute, helped New York pick up the three points. Dating back to Oct. 2009, the Red Bulls are unbeaten in their last eight regular season matches versus the Toronto, going 6-0-2. New York’s last loss to Toronto FC came on June 24, 2009 – a 2-0 defeat at BMO Field. The match marks the second of three meetings between the two clubs this season. The teams will play their final regular season contest on Sept. 14 at Red Bull Arena.
