After spending Thursday morning training on the pitch at the Red Bulls Training Facility, Eric Alexander, Brandon Barklage, Kosuke Kimura and Luis Robles put a different pitch to the test later in the day – their sales pitch.
The midfielder, defenders and goalkeeper fielded fan phone calls Thursday afternoon in the Red Bull Arena offices for those looking to renew season tickets for the 2014 season. The players placed and received calls for roughly 90 minutes, mixing up a healthy dose of friendly reminders for those who haven’t renewed yet along with their own individual personalities.
Robles chatted with fans about the Red Bulls and the kick off the EPL season. Kimura was happy to tell concerned fans that he was feeling better and recovering from his concussion, while Barklage punctuated every renewal with a resounding fist pump and Alexander just dusted off his shoulders with the grace of a season professional.
The competition was fierce between the four contestants, but in the end there can only be one winner; and that winner was Alexander.
“I demand a recount,” Robles said once the players wrapped up their calls.
“A recount? You were in third!” Alexander yelled. “A recount? No way.”
Once the dust settled and Alexander received his championship scarf from Jaime Ponce, Red Bulls Director of Ticket Sales and Fan Services, the players made their way around the office to chat with fellow members of the sales department and recap their day.
“I think for the most part, with the four of us, we were moderately to pretty successful,” Robles said. “But more than anything it was just great to be able to communicate to some of the fans that have been coming out to each and every home game and supporting us.”
