Tim Cahill to Miss 3-4 Weeks with Ankle Injury

Back on the pitch for only three matches since suffering a torn PCL against Real Salt Lake on July 27, New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill is unfortunately slated to miss additional time due to injury.

The Red Bulls will be without the services of Cahill, who registered a goal and an assist in New York’s 2-1 win over D.C. United, due to a torn ankle ligament sustained via a hard tackle in the eighth minute from D.C.’s Dejan Jakovic. Expected recovery time is anywhere from three to four weeks.

Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke wasn't happy with the tackle then, and certainly hadn't changed his opinion when he addressed the incident Tuesday afternoon during a conference call with members of the media.

“I’m a bit angry that now we have within two months, we have two tackles on Cahill that sideline him for, this time it’s going to be around three to four weeks, last time it was close to three weeks, two tackles that he tears a PCL and now he has ligament damage, and both of them go unpunished. That was clear, to me, a clear PK call.”

Cahill’s game-winner against D.C. was his eighth of the season. Add in his assist on Lloyd Sam’s goal, and the Aussie has accumulated eight goals and four assists in 22 games this season.

Additional updates on the injury front:

- Roy Miller will likely miss up to three weeks due to an Achilles injury

- Connor Lade is hovering around a timetable of two weeks due to his lingering knee injury

- Brandon Barklage is day to day with a hip strain
