Last Sunday in Chicago, Red Bulls defender Roy Miller started alongside Ibrahim Sekagya at center back. The start was Miller’s 100th of his career, all of which have come in a Red Bulls jersey.
Ironically enough, Miller’s first start in MLS also came against Chicago. Miller played 90 minutes and helped New York secure a shutout in a 1-0 victory in his league debut.
“In that moment for me, it was very important,” said Miller about his first start. “Now I sit back and see how many games I’ve played here. I’m happy for that, happy to still be here in the team and I think more games will be coming, so I’ve just enjoyed the games I’ve played.”
Miller is the longest tenured Red Bull, making his league debut on March 27, 2010. In his first season, the defender made 25 appearances (21 starts) and added two assists.
So far this season, Miller has made 14 appearances (13 starts) and has already added two assists with 11 regular-season games remaining.
“It’s significant a lot for me, because I could never play 100 games in any other team in the past,” said Miller. “I’m happy to play the 100 games for me, I feel bad because we didn’t win but for me, it was special to start my 100th game.”
“Right now, I’m happy to be here with the team.”
Miller and the Red Bulls get back to league action on August 23 when the Montreal Impact visit Red Bull Arena. The Red Bulls currently sit alone in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with a 6-7-10 record and 28 points.
