HARRISON, NJ (August 20, 2014) – New York Red Bulls midfielder Michael Bustamante underwent successful ACL surgery on his right knee on Wednesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Riley Williams III. Bustamante is expected to miss the remainder of the 2014 season. The second-year midfielder picked up the injury during a training session earlier this month.

Bustamante has not made a regular-season appearance in 2014 but did appear in New York’s U.S. Open Cup game against the New York Cosmos on June 14 and against Arsenal in the New York Cup on July 26.

Bustamante was selected by the Red Bulls in the first round (13th pick) of the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft. In his first season with New York, the Boston University product made four regular-season appearances, including one start, and recorded one assist.
