Red Bull U-18’s (2) at Baltimore Bays (0)
Saturday 22nd November (Harford Community College, Bel Air, Maryland)

The Red Bulls Under-18 Academy improved to 8-0-2 on the season with a 2-0 victory over the Baltimore Bays on Saturday. The Red Bulls started the game quickly and were denied an early goal after the Bays goalkeeper tipped a Derrick Etienne shot over the crossbar. Etienne had another scoring chance denied minutes later.

“We probably pushed too hard for the opening goal,” said Etienne, captain of the U-18 side. “We didn’t really settle into our game after the opening minutes. However, at half time we talked about keeping the game simple and moving the ball. We realized that more opportunities would come if we just kept the game simple and stopped forcing things.”

The Red Bulls came out sharp to start the second half, grabbing the lead in the 48th minute with a goal from Malcolm Dixon. Chris Flores played a perfect ball across the six yard box for Dixon to finish at the back post. Juan Sebastian Sanchez connected on a pass from Wes Wade in the 80th minute to put the game away. Red Bulls goalkeeper Tom Lapinas did not have to make a save for his third shutout in six appearances. With the clean sheet, Lapinas lowered his goal against average to 0.50.

The team will depart on Friday for a trip to Sarasota, Florida where they will partake in the USDA Academy Showcase. The Red Bulls open against the Indiana Fire, and then take on MLS Academy sides Vancouver Whitecaps and Houston Dynamo. Like the Red Bulls, those three sides are also undefeated this season.

“The games in Florida will provide a strong test for us,” said Dixon. “It will give us an indication as to where we stand against the top teams in the country. We are looking forward to playing some of the other unbeaten teams and we hope to carry our unbeaten record into the new year”.

Saturday 22nd November (Harford Community College, Bel Air, Maryland).

The U-16’s remain unbeaten on the season with a 6-2 away win over the Baltimore Bays.  Brian Saramago opened the scoring just seven minutes in, running onto a through ball from Jared Gilbey, and slotting the ball past the Bays goalkeeper. Brian Saramago then provided a cross for Ryan to tap in, putting New York up 3-0 in the 31st minute. Baltimore answered minutes later, and added a second off of a corner kick in the 55th minute to pull within one.
