HARRISON, NJ (January 27, 2015) – Fresh off of his performance with the United States Under-20 Men’s National Team, New York Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga has been invited to train with Bundesliga 2 side Red Bull Leipzig.

“This is a great development opportunity for Matt to train with an international club,” said sporting director Ali Curtis. “We are excited for him to spend some time and keep up the momentum from his success playing with the U.S. U-20s and qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.”

Miazga has joined the team in Doha, Qatar for training camp. There is no formal agreement for Miazga to join Leipzig. He is expected to rejoin the Red Bulls in Orlando.

This is not the first time Red Bulls players have been invited to train with international teams during preseason. Fellow homegrown players Santiago Castano and Connor Lade both trained abroad in previous off-seasons. Last year, Castano spent time with Red Bull Salzburg, and Connor Lade was invited to train with La Liga side Sevilla prior to the 2013 season.

The 19-year-old and Clifton, N.J. native was signed as a Homegrown Player on May 30, 2013. Miazga was part of the U.S. U-20 team that qualified for the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup over the weekend by finishing in the top four at the CONCACAF U-20 Championships. Miazga played in five of the team’s six games. The only time he was not a part of the starting XI was the 8-0 win over Aruba.
