Red Bull U18’s (4) vs Montreal Impact (2)

March 22, 2015 at Red Bulls Training Facility (Hanover, NJ) - The Red Bulls U-18’s improved their record on the season to 12-1-3 after defeating Montreal Impact at home, 4-2. The Red Bulls came out firing on all cylinders as they pressured Montreal early in the game and finally broke the deadlock in the 21st minute. Derrick Etienne recorded his first assist of the game with a fine pass to Juan Sebastian Sanchez as he recorded his team leading 11th goal of the season.

In the 27th minute, midfielder Kyle Zajec blasted in a shot from 25-yards after receiving a pass from Etienne outside the box. Sanchez scored his second of the game and 12th of the season after another fine pass from Etienne saw Sanchez tap in from close range. The Red Bulls extended the lead in the 57th minute when forward Ethan Lochner received a pass from Etienne and broke in from the left wing and blasted a right footed shot into the far corner of the goal. Montreal pulled back a goal in the 87th minute, but Etienne’s four assists were too much for Montreal to overcome.

“Before the game today we talked about coming out strong,” Defender Marcello Borges said. “It was a fantastic collective effort from the entire team and it showed throughout the entire 90 minutes…the entire team worked for each other and approached the game with a great attitude and that was the key to the success and performance of the team today.”

Red Bulls U16’s (2) vs Montreal Impact (0)

March 22, 2015 at Red Bulls Training Facility (Hanover, NJ) - The Red Bulls U16 Academy improved their record on the season to 14-0-2 after defeating Montreal Impact at home 2-0. The Red Bulls got off to a strong start and after a period of sustained pressure were rewarded with the first goal of the game. A well worked short corner between Jared Gilbey and Zach Ryan resulted in JP Marin almost getting into score, the Montreal goalkeeper made a good save but the ball fell to Kyle Casey who guided the ball into the top corner to give the Red Bulls a deserved early lead.  The second goal came shortly after as Red Bulls build up attacking momentum, JP Marin was again involved when he beat two players to play into Zach Ryan on the left side who did well to slip the ball through to Brian Saramago, Saramago created space for himself before curling a unstoppable shot from the top of the penalty box to double Red Bulls advantage.

Together, the whole Red Bull team pressed Montreal and put them under pressure high up the pitch. This created a good chances for Kyle Casey just before the break to extend the lead to three when he went through one on one with the Montreal goalkeeper but could not find the finish.

But, considering how well they started the game, the Red Bulls win was not as comfortable as it should have been.  The Red Bulls missed a number of excellent chances in the second half to score the all-important third goal. Montreal came out fighting in the second half and started to overrun the Red Bulls midfield to create a number of chances of their own. Two good saves from Wojciech Gajda and solid defending by the Red Bulls backline kept the game at 2-0 and secured the teams third consecutive shut out of the spring campaign.

The U16’s now travel to Dallas on Friday for the next round of Generation adidas games. They will compete in Premier Division where they will play; Houston Dynamo, Recife (Brazil) and Seattle Sounders. Click here to follow the team's progress during the tournament
