New York Red Bulls II trail Wilmington Hammerheads FC 2-0 after 45 minutes. The Hammerheads pulled ahead in the 21st minute with a goal from Nick Zimmerman. Zimmerman was played in by Wilmington Captain and former Chicago Fire first round pick Corben Bone. Bone drew defenders with a cutting run and laid a ball into the path of Zimmerman, who took a touch and was able to beat NYRB II ‘keeper Santiago Castano.

The second goal, also from Zimmerman, came after a blocked shot fell to the Hammerheads forward just outside the six yard box. With Castano out of position from the original shot, Zimmerman had no trouble depositing the ball into an open net.

Despite the deficit, New York did create quality scoring chances of their own. Forward Chris Tsonis earned two chances of his own, including a toe-poke steal that put him alone on goal, and a first-time strike on a chip from Leo Stolz that played him into the box. Tsonis’ low strike on that play required a quality save from Wilmington ‘keeper Andre Rawls.

Castano also had several stellar saves of his own, including a stop in the 42nd minute and a diving save on a long-range shot in the 18th minute.

Red Bulls midfielder Marius Obekop left the game in the 26th minute with an injury and was replaced by Franklin Castellanos.
