Karl Ouimette called up to Canada roster for 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifiers

HARRISON, N.J. (August 27, 2015) – New York Red Bulls defender Karl Ouimette has been named to Canada’s Men’s National Team 22-man roster for the third round of 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifying against Belize. The third round of qualifying will be settled in a two-leg, home-and-home series.


Ouimette, who was born in Repentigny, Quebec, has made 10 total appearances for the Canadian National Team, including five starts. The defender last featured with Canada at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Ouimette has made 10 appearances for the New York Red Bulls this season, in addition to four appearances with New York Red Bulls II.


The team begins training on Monday, Aug. 31 in advance of the first leg on Friday, Sept. 4 at BMO Field in Toronto. Following the home leg, Canada will then travel to Belize for the second leg in the country’s capital of Belmopan on Tuesday, Sept. 8.


The winner of the series moves into the fourth round which will take place in November. The fourth round will consist of a four-team group that includes Mexico, Honduras, and the winner of another third round tie between El Salvador and Curacao.
