THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT IN OUR INAUGURAL SEASON!

New York Red Bulls II played its final match of the 2015 USL season last weekend when the team fell on the road to the top-seeded Rochester Rhinos in the second-round of the 2015 USL Playoffs. The loss effectively ended New York’s season after they earned the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference and won its first ever playoff game in overtime against Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

The team will train at the Red Bulls Training Facility until the end of October before departing for the offseason.

Rochester Rhinos end Red Bulls II inaugural season

New York Red Bulls II fell in the Eastern Conference Semifinal against the USL Regular Season champion Rochester Rhinos at Sahlen’s Stadium, 2-0.

In the 22nd minute, Steevan Dos Santos earned a one-on-one with Konrad Plewa and ran at the defender. Plewa won the ball and passed back to Castano, but tugged at Dos Santos who went to ground and was issued a straight red card for the challenge.

Dos Santos went on to score in the 48th and 69th minute to give Rochester a two-goal advantage against the 10-man Red Bulls II. In the 78th minute, Marius Obekop whipped in a cross on a dangerous free kick which bounced off of the hand of a Rochester defender in the penalty area. The New York players pleaded for the referee to blow his whistle for a chance from the penalty spot, but no foul was called.

New York pressed forward in the final 10 minutes of the match, curling in numerous crosses, but were unable to finish and had their season ended in Rochester.

Anatole Abang (six starts, four goals): Since beginning the year with NYRB II, the young Cameroonian forward has appeared in 17 matches for the Red Bulls, tallying four goals and one assist. The forward also scored in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup against the New York Cosmos.

Sean Davis (five starts, two assists): Davis has been a consistent option for the Red Bulls off the bench in his rookie season, but plied his trade in USL when he didn’t get in games for the MLS-side. The Homegrown Player has earned one assist for the Red Bulls in the regular season, and scored his first professional goal in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. He scored his second and third professional goals over the summer in the International Champions Cup match against the 2014-15 English Premier League champions, Chelsea F.C.

Karl Ouimette (five starts, two playoff goals): In the ever changing back line of the Red Bulls, Ouimette has stepped in at center back 11 times this year, including seven starts. The defender has also appeared in seven matches for the Canada Men’s National Team this year, and was named to the 24-player roster for a friendly on Oct. 13 versus Ghana.

Anthony Wallace (six starts, one goal, one assist): Wallace has started six matches for the First Team, and scored two goals from long-distance this season. Prior to his goals in MLS, he scored a very similar game-winning goal against Pittsburgh Riverhounds in USL.

Ronald Zubar (one start): The French defender has made nine MLS appearances and six starts in MLS. Despite only playing one match in USL, his start for Red Bulls II on Aug. 12 was his first competition since picking up an injury on June 28 against NYCFC. He was substituted late in the first half, but the match served as a crucial step in getting Zubar back into game shape.
