The following is a list of New York Red Bulls Academy products with notable performances in the past few weeks of the college soccer season:
No. 6 Akron: Adam Najem* (MID) – The midfielder scored in the 99th minute to win Akron’s Oct. 3 match against UAB, 2-1. The Zips went on to win their next two matches as the MAC Hermann Watch List player now has six goals and four assists in 12 matches this season.
Binghamton: Conrad Nowowiejski (MID) – The freshman midfielder has played in 11 of Bighamton’s 13 matches this season, including eight starts. Nowowiejski has tallied one goal in his first college season against Saint Peter’s University on Sept. 9.
Bucknell: Chris Thorsheim* (MID) – The MAC Hermann Watch List player scored his fifth goal of the season on Oct. 3 against fellow Academy product Diego Ceron and Holy Cross en route to a draw, 1-1. Earlier this week, the midfielder tallied a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win against Howard. Thorsheim leads the team in goals (six) and assists (four). He has started and played all 13 matches for the Bisons.
UNC Charlotte: Harrison Steadman (FWD) – Steadman, a sophomore at Charlotte, earned his first assist of the season on Oct. 10 in a win against Marshall, 3-1. The forward has appeared in all 10 matches for the 49ers and has one goal this season.
Columbia: Frederick Elliot (MID/FWD), Antonio Matarazzo (MID) – Elliot scored on Oct. 10 against Penn in 2-1 victory for Columbia. The goal was his first of the season. Matarazzo, who played for the Red Bulls U-23 team over the summer, along with Elliot have both started and played all nine matches for the Lions this season.
No. 10 Georgetown: Brandon Allen* (FWD), Alex Muyl (FWD), Arun Basuljevic, Christopher Lema (MID) – On Oct. 3, the Hoyas prevailed against No. 20 Xavier in overtime thanks to a game-winning assist from Allen, a MAC Hermann Watch List player, in the 96th minute. Georgetown was also victorious in its Homecoming match versus No. 21 Butler, 2-0. Muyl combined with Allen, who scored the game-winning goal, while Basuljevic assisted the second goal.
On Oct. 14, Allen and Basuljevic scored while Muyl provided the game-winning assist in a win against Marquette, 3-0. Allen has five goals and six assists this season. Muyl and Basuljevic have started all 12 matches this season, while Lema, who started in all three matches, has made 11 starts this year. Muyl was also named BIG EAST Player of the Week.
Holy Cross: Diego Ceron (DEF) – Ceron, who’s started all 12 matches in defense this season, and the back line of Holy Cross has yet to allow more than one goal in a single match this season. In total, Holy Cross has only surrendered eight goals in 12 games this season. On Tuesday Holy Cross shutout Duke in a win, 1-0.
Marist: Cameron Harr (FWD) – The freshman scored on Oct. 3 against Saint Peter’s, a 2-0 win for Marist. Harr has scored a team-leading seven goals in 13 matches this season.
No. 18 Maryland: Mael Corboz (MID) – Corboz recorded two assists on Oct. 9 against Penn State, a 4-3 win for Maryland. The senior has two goals and a team-leading seven assists this season.
Michigan: Marcello Borges (DEF) – The former NYRB II and Red Bulls Academy player was called up to the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team to take part in the Mercedes Benz Elite Cup in Stuttgart, Germany. A freshman at Michigan, Borges has appeared in eight matches for the Wolverines.
Penn: Joseph Swenson (MID) – The sophomore scored his first and second goals of his college career in a win against Cornell, 2-0. The midfielder, who did not play as a freshman, has started and played in all nine matches for Penn.
Princeton: Henry Martin (DEF) – The former Red Bulls II and Red Bulls Academy player was named to the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team roster to take part in the Mercedes Benz Elite Cup in Stuttgart, Germany. Martin, a freshman, played three matches for Red Bulls II this summer and formerly played with the U.S. U-18s.
Rutgers: Erik Sa (MID) – On Oct. 6, the midfielder earned two assists against Yale in a win, 5-2. Sa has two goals and five assists in 12 starts for the Scarlet Knights this season.
Siena: Alex Tejera (FWD) – Tejera provided the game-winning assist against Canisius en route to a win, 1-0. In the following match versus Rider, the former Red Bulls U-23 player tallied one goal and an assist in an overtime loss, 3-2. The forward has two goals and four assists in 12 starts this season.
Tulsa: Juan Sebastian Sanchez (FWD) – The former Red Bulls II and Academy player scored against USF in a loss, 2-1. The freshman now has five goals and two assists in 12 appearances.
Villanova: Sean Sheridan (DEF/MID) – The senior scored twice in a win against Drexel, 4-3, and scored the game-winning goal from the penalty spot in the 88th minute against Providence, 2-1. Sheridan has totaled five goals and two assists in 12 starts this season.
No. 19 Virginia: Derrick Etienne (MID) – Etienne played 39 minutes versus Louisville, a 3-2 win for Virginia, and 38 minutes as a substitute against Boston College, a 2-1 loss. He also started this week against American, a 1-0 loss.
No. 5 Wake Forest: Kevin Politz (DEF), Steven Echevarria (MID) – Politz and Echevarria have appeared in back-to-back matches for Wake Forest, who are currently on a six-match unbeaten streak. Politz scored on Oct. 2 against Boston College, a 5-0 rout for the Demon Deacons.
