New York Red Bulls AT&T Goal of the Year Nominees

The New York Red Bulls have four goals nominated for the AT&T Goal of the Year with the ultimate winner to be determined in a round-by-round bracket style competition.

First Round voting is underway and will conclude on Nov. 6. Here are the Red Bulls nominees:

March 8, 2015 | Lloyd Sam vs. Sporting Kansas City

Opponent: Juan Agudelo (New England Revolution)

Lloyd Sam scored his first goal of the season and the first goal of the Red Bulls’ 2015 campaign on the road against Sporting Kansas City. Sam, charging towards the Kansas City back line, cut back to create space between himself and Sporting captain Matt Besler and struck a right-footed shot from about 20-yards. The curler leveled the match and earned New York an important road draw to start the season, 1-1.

July 18, 2015 | Sacha Kljestan vs. Orlando City SC

Opponent: Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC)

Sacha Kljestan tallied the Red Bulls’ first ever goal against Orlando City SC at the Sun Bowl with a drive from distance. The midfielder gained possession on the left side in space between the midfield and back line. After taking two touches towards the center of the field, Kljestan drove a shot into the top right corner of the goal from 25-yards. The goal proved to be the game-winner against Orlando, a 2-0 win for New York.

August 30, 2015 | Bradley Wright-Phillips vs. D.C. United

Opponent: Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC)

Bradley Wright-Phillips doubled New York’s advantage in impressive fashion against rivals D.C. United at Red Bull Arena. Mike Grella tracked down a long-ball from Felipe on the right side of D.C.’s penalty area and centered a cross on the half-volley. Wright-Phillips charged into the center of the box and met Grella’s cross with a right-footed volley into the top right corner of the goal. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid was left helpless and the Red Bulls went on to win the match, 3-0.

September 20, 2015 | Felipe vs. Portland Timbers

Opponent: Didier Drogba (Montreal Impact)

Felipe opened the scoring at Providence Park against Portland Timbers with a long-distance goal. With the Portland defense backtracking and space in the final third, Felipe lowered his head and struck the ball from more than 30-yards out. The drive flew directly into the top right corner past the diving Portland keeper to give New York the lead. Felipe’s tally was the game-winning goal en route to a 2-0 victory.
