ACADEMY UPDATE: U-14s win on dramatic late-winner, three teams draw, U-12s roll

The New York Red Bulls academy had all five age groups active last weekend and went unbeaten at all age levels.


The U-18, U-16 and U-13 teams all tied their opponents, while the U-14 and U-12 teams were victorious. Opponents this weekend included the New England Revolution U-18 and U-16 teams, Oakwood, Cedar Stars and FC Westchester Everton.


New York Red Bulls U-18 (0) vs. New England Revolution U-18 (0)

HANOVER, N.J. (April 10, 2016) ā€“ The New York Red Bulls U-18 tied New England Revolution, 0-0, on Sunday in their second home match of the season at the Red Bulls Training Facility.


New York controlled play in the first half, but could not find the finish. The visitors enjoyed more possession after the break, but were stifled by the hosts, who produced one of their best defensive displays of the season to limit New Englandā€™s chances in the run of play.


The Red Bulls U-18 created more chances in the second half and came away frustrated that they could not apply the finish.


ā€œWe had one of our better games on Sunday in terms of possession and creating chances,ā€ Man of the Match Mason Deeds said. ā€œOur defense was very strong in their tackles and we were well organized. Everyone was very tuned in and the team is really starring to connect now.ā€


The next game for the Red Bulls U-18s will be at home on Saturday, April 16, against FC Boston Bolts.

New York Red Bulls U-16 (2) vs. New England Revolution U-16 (2)

HANOVER, N.J. (April 10, 2016) ā€“ The New York Red Bulls U-16s tied New England Revolution at the Red Bulls Training Facility, 2-2.


Omir Fernandez opened the scoring for the Red Bulls in the 19th minute to put New York ahead early until New England fought back and took the lead with two goals in a five-minute stretch.


Fernandez scored his second goal of the game in the 54th minute, his 15th of the season, to earn the draw for New York. The Red Bulls U-16s return to action next Saturday when they welcome FC Boston Bolts to the Red Bulls Training Facility.

New York Red Bulls U-14 (1) vs. Oakwood (0)

HANOVER, N.J. (April 10, 2016) ā€“ The Red Bulls U-14s recorded a 1-0 win, thanks to a last second goal from Jonathan Ned, as goalkeeper Liam Bertrand picked up the shutout.


The Red Bulls had a great chance to take the lead in the first half, but a blast from Alex Quezada from 8-yards-out was saved well by the Oakwood goalkeeper. Oakwood had a chance in the 60th minute when Bertrand was forced into action with a brilliant save to keep the game scoreless.


Just as the game seemed destined for a scoreless draw, the Red Bulls scored with the last touch of the game. As New York pushed for the late victory, a shot was deflected wide for a corner kick. Midfielder Nick Gencarelli whipped in a corner kick that Ned was able to get to first with a header from 6-yards-out that went past the Oakwood goalkeeper for the win.

HANOVER, N.J. (April 10, 2016) ā€“ The New York Red Bulls U-13s played their second game of the spring, hosting Cedar Stars on Sunday evening in a scoreless draw. 


It was a tightly contested match with the Red Bulls trying to play through their opponent with good ball movement to create chances on goal. The visitors tried to impose their physicality and took a direct approach to the game. Neither team could find the back of the net as the game ended goalless.

HANOVER, N.J (April 9, 2016) ā€“ The New York Red Bulls U-12 Blue defeated FC Westchester Everton, 4-0, on Saturday in their second home match of the season at the Red Bulls Training Facility.


New York started the match on the right foot with two goals in the first 10 minutes. The Red Bulls added two more goals in the second half and secured their second win of the spring, earning a clean sheet in the process.

HANOVER, N.J (April 9, 2016) ā€“ The New York Red Bulls U-12 White kicked off their second game of the spring season with a decisive win, 15-0, over FC Westchester Everton. 


The Red Bulls scored eight goals in the first half before adding another seven in the second. Next week, the Red Bulls U-12s hit the road to take on Met Oval on Saturday.
