John Wolyniec ā€“ Head Coach New York Red Bulls
Wilmington gave you a tough time in the beginning of the match but you come away with a 4-0 win in the end

Yeah, definitely, Iā€™m most proud of the fact that we kept the score to zero and got back to our shutout ways and not giving up goals. Thatā€™s probably the best thing weā€™ll take from this game and then, you know, and then they made it hard for us for a long stretch of that game. Then when you put a lot into it on a hot day the dam breaks sometimes and you know it becomes easy for us and very difficult for them. But it certainty wasnā€™t a game that was in our total control the whole time, I mean I think we played very well, I think we had a great handle on the game, but Wilmington is a tough team and we had to play at our best and a lot of our guys had good games today so its going to lead to good results.

Mael Corboz was obviously a part of this last year, what was the most important part to mark him and keep him out of the net against you guys?

Well we know that Mael is a great player and heā€™s very technical and the play likes to come through him, so you know if weā€™re going to get after the game, get after them when they have the ball we know we have to be around Mael and make things hard for him. You know, a lot of our guys know him well and in a lot of ways that helps them but it also helps us, so today it kind of tilted in our favor. You know, we always want to get after the ball and knowing Mael makes it a little more, hey we know we have to stop this guy and get after him and then try to win the ball when heā€™s involved.

Metzger was physical all game long, how important is it to have a guy like him in that midfield?

Yeah, so obviously with the way we play, you know, when weā€™re being aggressive and getting after the ball, weā€™re looking to win balls in the midfield and their end of the field, Dan is covering ground and winning physical battles obviously helps us to tilt the game in our direction and go the way we want to go. Dan can obviously improve on some of the passes he plays forward and stuff, but when heā€™s playing well it goes well for us, last year when we went on a run of a lot of games, him and Tyler were on the field and now Dan is obviously coming back from an injury, Iā€™m not sure if heā€™s quiet 100% but heā€™s sure getting close. So any time heā€™s covering ground and winning balls itā€™s good for us.

Damain Perrinelle is back out there finally, 34 minutes out there, how did he look to you?

Yeah I mean part of it, one of the things we try to do with this team is help develop players but also help the first team players that are coming back from injury or need a game to keep in form. You know, I think he looked a little shakey early but thatā€™s totally understandable and by the last few minutes he was begging for time, not only from him words but from his play. He looked very good, you know, thatā€™s one of the reasons why we do this. Sometimes you just need those game minutes and to seem him get those and then come through clean and look good, especially, he looked stronger and stronger as he went. So I think we have to be pretty happy with that, you know, whatever his next step is weā€™ll take it and thereā€™s no reason to get ahead of ourselves but for today he looked great.
