HARRISON, N.J. (September 23, 2016) - The New York Red Bulls return home to host the Montreal Impact on Saturday, September 24. Kickoff at Red Bull Arena is set for 7 p.m. New York will look to extend its unbeaten streak to thirteen MLS games in a potential Audi 2016 MLS Cup Playoff matchup preview.
MSG+ and MSG GO will broadcast the match locally beginning at 6:30 with Red Bulls Game Night.
Red Bulls Radio kicks off at 6 p.m. with Countdown to Kickoff, hosted by Matt Harmon. Harmon will be joined by former Red Bull and MetroStar Steve Jolley for the English broadcast, while Ernesto Motta provides Spanish play-by-play beginning at 7 p.m.
The Red Bulls improved to 12-9-9 with a 3-3 draw last Sunday at Toronto FC. The Red Bulls sit tied on points for second place in the East entering the weekend, ahead of New York City FC on tiebreakers, and trailing Toronto by two points.
Against Toronto, an own goal off of Felipe’s cross opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Bradley Wright-Phillips followed that up by forcing a turnover and scoring on the subsequent breakaway in the 31st minute.
Out of halftime, Wright-Phillips against found the back of the again for his sixth multi-goal game of the season. The marker brought Wright-Phillips to 20 on the season, expanding his league lead. The English forward has scored recorded eight goals and an assist on his current six-game scoring streak, a career-long, and the longest scoring streak in MLS this season. The streak started with two goals against Montreal on August 13.
Sacha Kljestan scored a late winner for the Red Bulls last Thursday night at Red Bull Arena in a Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Match. The Red Bulls sit atop group F with seven points from three games. After Saturday, New York heads to Guatemala to close out the group stage with a match against Antigua GFC on Tuesday, September 27.
Montreal enters at 9-9-11, and 1-2-2 in their last five. Ignacio Piatti leads the team with 14 goals, while Didier Drogba has added 10 goals and five assists.
New York is 7-3-2 all-time against Montreal, and a perfect 6-0-0 in games played at Red Bull Arena. As part of the twelve game undefeated streak, New York defeated Montreal, 3-1 at home in mid-August.
After Saturday, the Red Bulls travel to Antigua, Guatemala for the final Champions League group stage game against Antigua GFC on September 27.
