HARRISON, N.J. (May 9, 2017) – New York Red Bulls II forward Douglas Martinez was named to the final roster for Honduras Under-20 World Cup Team, according to the Honduran Federation.
Martinez departed today for Honduras to join the Honduras U-20 National Team in preparation for the Under-20 World Cup taking place in Korea Republic beginning Monday, May 22 at 4 a.m. as Honduras takes on France.
Honduras is paired in Group E with France, Vietnam and New Zealand.
Martinez joined Red Bulls II on loan from Honduran first-division side CD Vida on April 26, 2017.
Martinez debuted for NYRB II this past weekend against Harrisburg City Islanders. He was inserted as a 75th minute substitute and scored his first goal four minutes later in a 3-1 win.
Prior to joining Red Bulls II, Martinez started five of the team’s six matches notching one goal in the U-20 CONCACAF Championship as Honduras qualified for the U-20 World Cup with their second place finish.
Honduras is paired in Group E with France, Vietnam and New Zealand.
