New York Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch set a new franchise record for MLS wins with the Red Bulls’ victory in New England, the 42nd MLS win of his Red Bulls career.
Humbled by the new record, Marsch expressed his gratitude to the club and Red Bulls fans for their support.
“More than anything, I want to take the opportunity to thank the club,” Marsch said. “The belief that people in this club have had for me and the support I've had, you know, has been incredible.”
Marsch surpassed previous record holders Octavio Zambrano and Hans Backe, who both won 41 games as head coach of the Red Bulls.
Under Marsch’s watch, New York finished in first place of the Eastern Conference in consecutive seasons and won the 2015 Supporters’ Shield.
“Never as a player or a coach [have I] been anywhere where I've been supported so much,” Marsch said. “It starts with the leadership of Oliver Mintzlaff, with our connections to Europe, but also Marc de Grandpre, Denis Hamlett, all the way down.”
Marsch is 42-27-17 in 86 games at the helm for the Red Bulls, and 54-43-23 in his MLS career. He was named 2015 MLS Coach of the Year in his first season with the Red Bulls, and is in the midst of his third year with the club.
“The leadership team in the front office, all the people in this club have just set me up for success and set us up for success by the support that they've given me.
“I'm very thankful to be the head coach of the New York Red Bulls."
