New York’s Five Biggest Home Games of the 2018 MLS Season

With the 2018 MLS season schedule revealed, here are five of the biggest home matches on the New York Red Bulls’ schedule this season...

Portland Timbers - Saturday, March 10 - 7 PM

The New York Red Bulls open the 2018 MLS season at home against last year’s top seed in the Western Conference, Portland Timbers.

Led by new coach and MetroStars legend, Giovanni Savarese, New York vs. Portland sets up to be a thrilling match to kickoff the new season.

NYCFC - Saturday, May 5 - 2 PM

In the first New York Derby of the new season, the Red Bulls aim to prove New York is Red as they renew their rivalry against NYCFC.

The clubs will face off three times this season, with the May 5 matchup marking the lone derby match at Red Bull Arena in 2018. The Red Bulls lead the all-time series with a 5-3-1 record.

Sporting KC - Sunday, July 14 - 7 PM

After falling to Sporting KC in the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final, this one is likely circled on the Red Bulls’ calendar.

New York will be looking for three points for the first time since 2014 against SKC to exact some revenge at home.

D.C. United - Sunday, August 26 - 7 PM

The oldest rivalry in MLS makes its solo return to Red Bull Arena in 2018 on August 26.

New York dominated D.C. United in 2017, posting a 2-0-1 record and re-claiming the Atlantic Cup trophy, and as the second head-to-head with D.C. of the season, this match will be critical for both clubs and its fans in winning season-long bragging rights.

Orlando City SC - Sunday, October 28 - 4:30 PM

In the MLS regular season finale, New York takes on former captain Sacha Kljestan and Orlando City SC.

In a game filled with storylines and likely playoff implications, this lines up to be a must-see match on MLS Decision Day.
