The New York Red Bulls return to CONCACAF Champions League play against Club Deportivo Olimpia on Thursday, February 22 at 10 p.m. ET (TV: Univision, RADIO: Red Bulls Radio English).
As for New York’s Honduran opponent, CD Olimpia enters the tournament in top form.
Olimpia currently stands in second place of the Liga Nacional with an unbeaten 5-4-0 record and have not lost a league match since November.
The club finished as the regular season leaders in both sections of the Honduran season, the Clausura and Apertura, in 2016-17, before being ousted in the playoffs in both seasons.
Despite postseason troubles, the Honduran powerhouse were successful in the inaugural 2017 CONCACAF League, winning the tournament and earning themselves a place in Champions League.
Historically one of the most storied and successful clubs in Honduras, Olimpia are CONCACAF Champions League veterans, having won the tournament in 1972 and 1988.
Olimpia’s most recent Champions League campaign in 2017 ended in the group stage, finishing second to eventual champions Pachuca.
