TOP MOMENTS: Danny Royer, New York Red Bulls

The New York Red Bulls have signed Austrian midfielder Daniel Royer to a new multi-year MLS contract, the club announced today. Royer signs a deal to stay in New York after a breakout 2017 campaign.

Royer has had some major moments for the Red Bulls over his career with the club. Here are some of the top moments he's had with the team:

Open Cup Winner

Royer put the Red Bulls through, over their rival New York City FC, in the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, with the lone goal of the game.

The Austrian one-timed a deflected ball through the defense and into the goal for the Red Bulls.

The Red Bulls took that win and went all the way to the Open Cup Final in '17.

Champions League Double

Royer has scored goals in both the UEFA Champions League and the Concacaf Champions League.

The 27-year-old scored against C.D. Olimpia to notch his Concacaf goal, while he notched a goal in UEFA play while with Austria Wein.

The Open Cup and Champions League goals helped Royer to another milestone: Giving him a goal in all four major American competitions (MLS Regular-Season, MLS Playoffs, U.S. Open Cup and Concacaf Champions League). It took Royer just 42 games across all competitions to check off a goal in each competition as a Red Bull.

Player of the Week

Royer went on a tear in July, 2017. Royer started and played two games in Week 20 of the 2017 season, totaling three goals and one assist in 158 minutes for New York.

On July 19, the Austrian winger buried back-to-back goals in the 90’ and 90’+1’ minutes against the San Jose Earthquakes to cap off a big win for the Red Bulls, 5-1.

Three days later, Royer started and played 68 minutes in Minnesota where he scored the game-winning goal in the 16th minute, and assisted Bradley Wright-Phillips’ goal in the second half en route to another Red Bulls win, 3-0.

For that, he was named MLS Player of the Week.

Player of the Month

Building off of that week, Royer went on to have a spectacular July and was named MLS Player of the Month.

He scored six goals and added one assist in the month, leading the Red Bulls to a perfect 4-0-0 record on the month while scoring a goal in every match.

Royer began the month with a penalty kick goal in the 55th minute of the Red Bulls 3-2 victory over the New England Revolution on July 5 at Gillette Stadium. Following a two-week break in action, Royer continued his scoring ways with a brace in New York’s 5-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on July 19. Royer scored a goal from a tough angle in the 90th minute to extend the Red Bulls’ lead to 4-1 before adding another goal in the 91st minute after freeing himself of a defender with an athletic cutback move.

The 27-year-old scored a goal and added an assist in a 3-0 victory over Minnesota United FC on July 22, putting the Red Bulls on the board in the 19th minute with a stunning long range shot before finding Bradley Wright-Phillips with a perfectly placed downfield pass to give New York a 2-0 lead in the 67th minute.

Royer capped his month with a brace in New York’s 4-0 victory over the Montreal Impact on July 29, opening the match with a penalty kick goal in the 23rd minute. The Red Bulls took a 4-0 lead in the 89th minute on Royer’s shot from the right side of the box to complete his second multi-goal performance of the month.

The 2017 season was a breakout one for Royer, and he even broke out some fancy flipping when we was celebrating goals.

Royer made a spectacle out of his July streak, celebrating with backflips after goals during the month of July.

Though he's since retired the flips, they were truly a fan-favorite.
