The ultimate scoring machine. The ultimate assist machine. Bradley Wright-Phillips has been nothing short of amazing for his entire tenure as a New York Red Bulls player.
BWP scored the game-winning goal in the 51st minute of a 3-1 victory, New York’s fourth-straight and third in a row on the road. He added another just four minutes later, and is now tied for the MLS-lead in goals scored with eight on the season.
“Amazing, amazing. Bradley Wright-Phillips is a legend here and it continues to create the story,” Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch said. “Our goal for him is to make sure that the end point is something that he can hang his hat on, and we all can hang our hats on, but he’s amazing.”
Wearing the captain’s armband with Luis Robles out, he continues to find a way to rise to the occasion.
“He’s amazing in the ways he can score goals," Marsch said. "He’s amazing the way he runs and works for the team. He’s amazing his mentality and commitment to being a leader to do everything that could ever be asked of him, he is just amazing, so happy for him.”
Both goals via his head, BWP continues to find different ways to score and add to the record books.
"It’s crazy this guy can score at any time,” Royer said. “He can score at any time. He is so important.”
As he approaches 100 MLS regular season goals (94) and cements his place in 2018 MVP candidacy talks, there seems to be no slowing him down -- and Marsch & Co. will have no qualms with that.
