Ben Mines Excited to be Part of Homegrown Team

New York Red Bulls midfielder Ben Mines was named to his first MLS Homegrown game, and will be competing against Tigres UANL’s Under-20 Team. According to Mines, he's very excited to be a part of the All-Star festivities in Atlanta.

"Been really exciting so far," Mines said. "And really fun to meet up with the guys, who most of them I've already known and played with. It's just been great so far."

A number of current Red Bulls players, such as Tyler Adams, Sean Davis and Derrick Etienne, Jr. all took part in the homegrown game in recent years, and with the success those players before him are having, Mines knows this is a significant accomplishment.

"It means a lot to me," MInes said. "I look up to these guys on my team, and i know what kind of paths they've had and what kind of players they are now. Trying to continue along the same path and get to where they are is the goal for me."

When speaking about what he's most looking forward to from Tuesday's match, Mines talked about having some fun and putting on a show for the fans.

"Just getting on the pitch, having some fun, putting a nice smile on for the fans and hopefully score a goal or two," Mines said.

The matchup between MLS Homegrown and Tigres UANL’s Under-20 Team will be on Tuesday, July 31 at 8 p.m. ET at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground (TV: Univision Deportes / Twitter.com).
