Chris Armas: 'Ninety Minutes to Get the Job Done'

Down 1-0 after Leg 1, the New York Red Bulls know they have 90 minutes to battle back.

"You have ninety minutes back in our building where we’ve been pretty good," Head Coach Chris Armas said.

With Columbus Crew SC scoring a second-half goal to top the Red Bulls 1-0 at MAPFRE Stadium in Leg 1, New York will need to be firing on all cylinders when they play host at Red Bull Arena on November 11.

"The week is going to be about getting physically, tactically, and technically sharp," Armas said. "We’ll go home and get ready for the next game with a lot of excitement in front of our home fans, where we’ve been very, very good.

Despite the advantage, Columbus is not taking their lead for granted.

"We’re going to have our work cut out for us," Crew SC Head Coach Gregg Berhalter said. "We know they’re a good team, they’re a strong team. Our message to the group was, ‘We’re halfway through a 180-minute game, potentially more with extra time.’ We’re happy, but we’re not done. That’s the important message. I guarantee you in New York, it’s going to be a difficult game as it was tonight."

It'll come down to playing the right gameplan and executing when they need to for New York.

"We understand what [Columbus Crew SC] do and why they do it, but on the night, if we’re sharper when we have the ball and in those pressing, transition moments, maybe it looks a little different, so we’ll take a lot of positives going back to our building," Armas said.

The Red Bulls are excited to come home and play in front of their home crowd in Leg 2, which is exactly what they think they need to give them an extra advantage.

"That’s what you enjoy about the home field advantage, in the second leg, where it’s all determined, you get to do it in front of your home fans and family," Armas said. "That’s where we are very, very comfortable, so we’re excited about that opportunity. It’s not easy on the road. In this League, you can see it, most teams are pretty good at home, and Columbus [Crew SC] is very good at home. It hurts a little that we don’t get the perfect result here, but certainly, ninety minutes to get the job done, at home, we feel good about that."
