What to Watch For: NYRB II vs. Memphis 901 FC

Stroud/Barlow _3919

New York Red Bulls II will take on Memphis 901 FC in the first meeting ever between the two clubs on March 29 at 7 p.m. ET. These are the three things to watch in Friday’s match.

ROLLING ON MOMENTUM

Memphis 901 FC is coming off their first victory in the club’s history, after they defeated Bethlehem Steel FC on the road. They will be coming to MSU Soccer Park on the campus of Montclair State University with some momentum, but so will NYRB II. Even though the match against Nashville SC ended in a draw, NYRB II had most of the possession and chances late in the second half, which will have the team feeling very confident.

FAMILIAR FACES

A bunch of familiar faces will be coming to MSU Soccer Park on Friday night. One name in particular will be very familiar to NYRB II fans. Dan Metzger, midfielder for Memphis 901 FC, will be making his return to where his career started. He is the all-time leader in appearances and games started for the club. Metzger knows NYRB II’s system very well, but it has been a while since he has worn the red and white.

THE STROUD- BARLOW CONNECTION

In 2018, Tom Barlow and Jared Stroud made waves in the USL Championship. They totaled 17 goals and 13 assists between the two of them. This season they have been on the field together for 66 out of a possible 180 minutes. This Friday should be the first time this season that these two guys will get to connect with each other. If last year was any indication, then Memphis is in for something on Friday night.

New York Red Bulls II will begin a road trip on April 6 against Birmingham Legion FC, and it will end on April 13 against Charlotte Independence. They will return home when they face Hartford Athletic on April 17, with kick-off set for 7 p.m. ET.
