This week’s Homegrown Hero is Cathlynne Valmores, RN, BSN, PCCN, HN-BC. This past week we caught up with her to know more about her story, and what she has experienced since the pandemic started. We thank Cathlynne for all her efforts and for inspiring our club with her acts.
Tell me about your career and what inspires you every day?
I am an ER nurse in one of the hottest spots of the pandemic in NJ. I’m inspired by all of my coworkers and other frontline workers who continuously go to work and fight this virus everyday. I’m also inspired by all of my family and friends who continue to adjust working from home and juggling between that home/work life. Everyone has been asked so much from this pandemic.
How much have your job duties changed since the pandemic started?
In the height of the pandemic, I worked on the COVID unit for 2 months, and it was definitely the hardest part of my career so far. Not being sure or knowing how to help these people in the beginning was tough. We would do everything we possibly can, and despite all efforts, we would lose. I went into this career because I wanted to help people, save lives and not being able to do that was terrible. Many things have changed since then, and I’m so happy that there have been many improvements.
What’s the biggest lesson/s you’ve learned during this time period?
I have learned so much from this pandemic. I have learned I’m much stronger than I ever thought I could be. I learned life is short and we should live the way we want to live, and I’ve learned to love much harder and appreciate everything.
