NJ LOTTERY LOOKBACK: Juan Carlos Osorio is Named RBNY Head Coach

On this date in 2007, Juan Carlos Osorio was named New York Red Bulls Head Coach. The Colombian Head Coach led our club in 61 games over two seasons. Between Jan. 1, 2000 and June 30, 2001, he acted as Assistant Coach to Head Coach Octavio Zambrano.

After coaching the Red Bulls, Osorio went on to coach Colombian sides Once Caldas and Atlético Nacional, Mexican club Puebla FC and Brazilian giants São Paulo FC.

Osorio led Mexico’s National Team to the 2018 World Cup, where El Tri finished among the top-16 and defeated Germany’s National Team in the group stage.

The former RBNY Head Coach also spent a brief stint as Paraguay’s Head Coach between 2018 and 2019.

Osorio led our club to our first MLS Cup Final in 2008 after defeating the Houston Dynamo in the Conference Semifinals and Real Salt Lake in the Conference Finals. Juan Pablo Ángel ended that MLS year with 16 regular-season goals and two playoff goals.
