Time is on the New York Red Bulls side for their match against Minnesota United FC.
The team had a full week to prepare for this next match. Before this, the team had played six matches over the course of 28 days, including five matches in seventeen days.
“We will just be more prepared for this game because we have had more field time to talk about what we want to get out of this match, so that’s helpful," Head Coach Jesse Marsch said after training on Thursday. "The guys have worked really well, I mean, they come in every day, they give full attention, they go out on the pitch and put everything into it and it has helped us get some early success."
Coming off their first loss of the season, the Red Bulls will look to get back on track on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Red Bull Arena.
Sean Davis, who missed the game in Salt Lake with a knock he took in training, said that the setback was humbling for the team.
“I think that when you go on a great run, it is always important to stay humble and I think that’s one of the big talking points coming out of that game," Davis said "We can’t get too far ahead of ourselves."
Connor Lade said the team has putting in work this week to prepare for Minnesota -- and they are feeling good.
"We are working really hard this week, going over video and getting back to what makes us good," Lade said. "We are feeling really confident going into this game."
Confidence won't be enough to earn the three points at home, though.
"We weren’t happy with the performance in Salt Lake, but we need to continue to integrate new players so that they get up to speed with how we do things and with who we are and what the travel is like and everything," Marsch said. "So, overall, even though the result wasn’t what we wanted, we used it to make us better. Now, this week, it will be good to have a normal week under our belts so that we can feel fully prepared for Saturday’s match against Minnesota.”
And the Red Bulls will be hunting for a win on Saturday.
"It is always about the next game, no matter what you accomplished in the past," Davis said. "I think it was an important step. It was a reality check and now we are really focused on three points Saturday.”
