Jamison Olave Named to MLSsoccer.com's Team of the Week

Often times it seems the best match from a defender is the one when you hardly notice he was on the pitch. Hard-nosed, efficient play that keeps offensive threats off the map is highly valued but at times can go unnoticed. Whereas on the other side of the equation, poor positioning and one blunder could make for a very long day for any defender. In other words, a textbook outing with little to no mistakes is exactly what you want to see from a player on the back line, even if you don't notice it at first glance.

There are exceptions of course. After all, when you see a hulking defender plowing over the opposition, shaking off what appears to be an injured knee, and chugging back to cover ground with the momentum of a freight train, you tend to take notice.

So for those who watched Sunday's 1-0 win over FC Dallas, be it live at Red Bull Arena or from the comfort of a couch or bar stool, Jamison Olave's inclusion in this week's MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week shouldn't come as a big surprise.

MLSsoccer.com writes:

"Made a number of crucial interventions along the New York backline, as he often does, even as he battled a knock to the knee sustained before halftime in the Red Bulls' 1-0 win over FC Dallas."

On Tuesday afternoon, Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke suggested he would likely take some precautions with Olave this Sunday against the Seattle Sounders, as he does have some concerns for his defender's knee. It's not something Petke is comfortable putting at risk if it means potentially losing him for more time.

Given Olave's formidable presence on the back line this season, it's better to be safe than sorry.

New York returns to action Sunday against the Sounders for 9:00 PM kick off on ESPN.

The Red Bulls return to Red Bull Arena on Saturday, October 5, for a 7:00 PM kick off against the New England Revolution. Get tickets now at Red Bulls Ticket Central, or call 877.RB.SOCCER to get your seats today.
