New York Red Bulls midfielder Lloyd Sam has been named to the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week thanks to his play against D.C. United in Saturday's 2-1 win.

Sam was an integral part of the Red Bulls' offense throughout the match, starting with his chip goal in the eighth minute, and continuing on throughout thanks to a series of strong runs on goal, crosses, and beating defenders on the dribble.

According to MLSsoccer.com:

"MF: Lloyd Sam (New York Red Bulls) – Initiated some of the Red Bulls' most dangerous attacks in their 2-1 Atlantic Cup win over D.C. United and opened the scoring with an impressive chip."

Although Sam is the only Red Bull included in the League's Starting XI, two other teammates made it to the bench as honorable mentions.

Tim Cahill, who was forced to sub off with an ankle injury in the 58th minute, contributed a goal and an assist in his time on the pitch, perhaps even inspired by his son's performance of the National Anthem prior to kick off.

On the other end of the pitch, Luis Robles stopped all but one shot, a goal from Nick DeLeon in the 36th minute, to backstop the Red Bulls to a much-needed three-point result. The 'keeper came up big on a Dwayne De Rosario penalty kick attempt in the 73rd minute, when he guessed correctly with a dive to his right to stop the shot and preserve the club's 2-1 advantage.

The Red Bulls return to action Sunday when they hit the road for a 5:00 PM kick off against the Houston Dynamo. Watch all the action live on MSG.

New York returns home the following weekend on September 14th for a 7:00 PM match against Toronto FC. Tickets are available at Red Bulls Ticket Central, or by calling 877.RB.SOCCER.
