HARRISON (March 30, 2014) - The New York Red Bulls Reserves (1-1-0) defeated the USL PRO side Dayton Dutch Lions, 3-0, on Sunday evening at Red Bull Arena. Second half goals from Michael Bustamante, Eric Stevenson, and Matt Miazga helped the Red Bulls earn their first win of the season.

After a scoreless first half, the Red Bulls opened the scoring in the 51st minute. Stevenson’s corner was flicked on by Connor Lade in the box and Bustamante re-directed the ball in past Dayton goalkeeper Matt Williams to give the Red Bulls a 1-0 advantage.

Ten minutes later, the Red Bulls would double their lead when Marius Obekop found Stevenson coming down the right side of the field. Obekop played the ball ahead to Stevenson, who blasted a shot in from the right side of the net.

Miazga gave the Red Bulls a 3-0 lead in the 66th minute. On another corner from Stevenson, Miazga rose above the defense in the box and headed the ball off the crossbar and over the line.

The Dutch Lions’ best chance of the evening came in the final 10 minutes of the match. In the 81st minute, Dayton forward Matt Walker played the ball to Aaron Schoenfeld, who passed it back to Walker. Walker had space on the right side of the box but rolled it just wide of the left post net past the outstretched Ryan Meara.

The Red Bulls’ next reserve match is on Sunday, April 6 when they take on the Montreal Impact’s Reserves at 10:30 AM at Olympic Stadium in Montreal.
