HARRISON, N.J. (August 18, 2014) – Last week, the New York Red Bulls U-14 team took part in the Next Generation tournament, hosted by FC Red Bull Salzburg at the brand-new Liefering Academy, and finished in third place. New York was one of four sister clubs to participate, including Red Bull Salzburg, Red Bull Brasil and RB Leipzeig.

The U-14s were drawn into a three-team group along with European powers Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund. The Baby Bulls dropped the first game, 3-1, against Manchester City, with Jean Paul Marin getting on the scoresheet for New York, but then put in a strong defensive performance against Dortmund in a scoreless draw that saw the U-14s advance for the second year in a row, this time via goal differential.

In the quarterfinals, New York and Espanyol de Barcelona were tied, 1-1, through regular time and penalty kicks were needed to determine a victor. The U-14s were up to the task and defeated the Spaniards, 3-1, to move on to the semi-finals and a date with FC Bayern Munich. However, the Germans defeated the Baby Bulls, 1-0, to set up a third-place match between New York and RB Leipzeig.

Thanks to Tyler Adams’ first-half goal, the Americans walked away with bronze after a 1-0 victory. Adams was a recent call-up to the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team camp in mid-July.

The Red Bulls U-14s begin their 2014-15 campaign on Saturday, September 6, against the Match Fit Academy FC U-14s at Red Bull Training Facility in Hanover, NJ. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
