HARRISON, N.J. (September 27, 2014) –
Red Bull Arena hosted the annual Harrison-Kearny high school soccer matches today, one of New Jersey’s oldest high school soccer rivalries.
The girls game which kicked off at noon, ended in a 6-0 win for the Kearny Kardinals. Despite coming out strong to begin the second half, the Blue Tide could not hold off the Kardinals who captured the New York Red Bulls High School Cup.

Following the girls game, the boys kicked off an equally hard fought match. With the score tied 1-1 at halftime, the draw was broken by Kearny’s Edgar Najarro in the 54th minute, when he sent a bending shot into the top left corner. Another goal was added late in the game, giving the Kardinals a 3-1 victory.

Following the Kearny sweep, both the girls and boys teams celebrated their victories on the field with the trophy and their fans. Despite a historic heated rivalry between the schools, both the girls and boys teams lined up to shake hands after the match, demonstrating sportsmanship in a memorable day for all.
